BARBI LEE
Is an education- based NOT competition-based school which takes the dance education of your child seriously. All of our main teachers are over 21, assistant teachers have all been trained and tested by the school. Our main dance floors are sprung wood. Students up to Level VI dance in one dance per class in the Spring Show and require one costume costing about $40. You can be sure your child will learn in a non-competitive atmosphere where dance is respected as an ART not a SPORT and that age-appropriate music and costumes will be chosen.
We have a Holiday Presentation sometime before Christmas when the beginning students perform the dances they have learned to date. It is informal and requires no costumes.

*PARENT PARTICIPATION
Attending class WITH your child is an important part of our program. (Thru age 12)...I am well aware that no other dance schools require the parent to attend, but then no other dance school is quite like ours. It is extra effort to spend that time each week but ask the parents who do come and they will tell you it’s well worth it. They know what their child is supposed to practice, they know how their child fits into the class, they know what the studio is trying to accomplish, they have developed a fine one-on-one relationship with their child and with the teacher. All of this works together for a happy dance experience, one that your child will remember forever. This participation should continue through the 6th grade.
Students are asked to practice 3 times a week for 15 minutes at a time.
We ask the attending parent to bring along a small tape recorder to record either the whole lesson or the music to the dances. This way the student has the music at home to dance with as well as the teacher’s instruction and how to “say” the steps. If a parent has to occasionally miss class the student can usually handle the cassette player. VIDEO-RECORDERS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN CLASS ... . BARBI LEE is one of the very few dance schools who even allow parents to watch a class. This method has been working well for us for all these years and we hope you know that the investment in time is a good investment in your child’s future.
BARBI LEE...MISC. ...
...1st and 2nd year students will perform in a special Workshop presentation performance in December...WE ARE THE HOME OF THE CHILDREN’S NUTCRACKER.. Our older students will be performing this popular show again the first weekend of December. Barbi Lee students perform all over the Twin Cities for many civic and cultural events....Barbi Lee can boast graduates who are performing and teaching all across the country today, as well as many successful students who are doctors, lawyers accountants and homemakers. At the present time she is teaching 2nd & 3rd generation dancers.
WHY WE STUDY WHAT WE STUDY . . .
Classes at Barbi Lee are a combination of ballet, tap, jazz & acrobatics. BALLET is the foundation of all dance and so is especially necessary to the beginning student. TAP dance will teach rhythm and fast movement and fast thinking to help the dancer in moving quickly and in memorization of steps. JAZZ dance, because of the fun music, strikes at the soul of the dancer and frees the body to move more naturally. The amount of ACROBATICS we teach isn’t excessive, just enough to keep the body limber.
Through the years we have discovered that the best dancer is a well-rounded dancer and the way to get the most out of your dance education is to be exposed to all forms of dance. Students at Barbi Lee study all forms of dance in the same lesson, sharing time equally between ballet, tap & jazz. We have a recital at the end of the year in which the beginning through 3rd grade students perform one dance in one of two performances.

MESSAGE FROM RHEE GOLD
(Rhee is the executive director of the ADA Competition and a life-long teacher of dance)
When it seems that dance is taking up too much time or costing too much money, I ask you to realize that dance gives your child much more than another costume or another trophy. The kids who dance are off the street and focused on an art form that can only make them better people. Usually they are very smart kids who understand what hard work and determination are all about. Through dance they learn the skills that will get them into a good college or land that job that will make you burst with pride! But, most important, they are not the kids that we hear about on the news- doing things that shock us to the core. I say, congratulations on being able to give these opportunities to your child.!
* these classes would be $56 if 3rd class
